Garlic Pepper Kulambhu

GARLIC BLACK PEPPER KULAMBHU


Kulambhu is a stew based on a broth made with tamarind. The dish is very popular as a side for rice in the southern regions of India especially in Tamil Nadu. Kulambhu vareities are countless, with each state in the South preparing it with a typical variation, adapted to its taste.

Main Ingredient : Black Pepper and Garlic.

Ingredients :


Garlic - 10 pods

Tamarind paste - 2 tbsp

Sesame Oil - 3 tbsp

Turmeric - 1 tsp

Curry leaves - few

Salt to taste

To Grind :

Malli seed - 1 tbsp

Black Pepper - 1 tbsp

Jeera - 1 tbsp

Channa dal - 1 tbsp

Red chilli - 3

Cashew nut - 3



Preparation :


  • Heat a pan, add oil to the pan, add mustard and urad dal, curry leaves and red chili.
  • After it is done, add Garlic to the pan.

  • Add water with tamarind paste and turmeric to it. Let it boil for a while.

  • Grind everything (which is listed above). Add to the boiling pan. You cangrind to a fine 
  • Let it reduce to a paste.
  • Add salt , garnish.

Serve it hot with rice.
