THIRIVATHIRAI KALI
Thiruvathirai is a Tamil culture which is observed on the day when Lord shiva performed the tandava. The festival is also a commemoration of Shiva's nakshatra (Birthday star) Ardra.

Main Ingredients : Rice and Moong dal

Ingredients :

Rice - 2 cups

Moong dal - 1 cup

Jaggery - 2 cups

Cardamom - 5

Cashews - 10

Coconut grated - 1/2 cup

Ghee - 3 tbsp

Preparation :

  • Heat the pan, add the washed rice and Moong dal, roast till light brown, grind into a fine powder and seive it.
  • Then keep the pan in medium low heat and add jaggery with 1 cup of water.
  • In another pan, add little ghee and roast coconut grated, cardamom and cashew nut, keep it aside.
  • Now the jaggery is fully melted, now keep stirring and add the Rice and moongdal mix to it.
  • It should blend together and should not stick to the pan, add ghee slowly.
  • Now reduce the heat and add the roasted coconut, cashew nut and cardamom.
Serve it hot with little ghee on top, or coconut gratings on top.
