Somas

It is a type of Indian Sweet. Made for functions like Diwali, karthigai.

Main Ingredients : Maida, coconut and porikadalai/Pottukadalai

Ingredients :

Maida - 3 cups

Water to knead the dough - 1/2 cup

Oil for frying

Porikadalai - 1 cup

Coconut grated - 1/2 cup

Sugar - 1 cup

Cardamom crushed - 1 tsp

Cashew nut ground - 2 tbsp


Preparation :

  • Make a dough using maida and ghee with little water. Not too soft or too hard, you can add little salt(optional)
  • For filling, heat a pan, add ghee. roast grated coconut for a while. Then powder porikadalai and sugar. Mix everthing - Porikadalai powder, sugar, cardamom, cashews. Filling ready.

  • With dough, you can divide into small ball. Using rolling pin, make a round chapathi, keep the filling in center and close it.

  • Wet the edges with water and just press with a fork. So that the filling will stay inside.
  • In another pan, heat the oil and fry those somas.

Serve it hot or little later.
