Plaintan Puttu

PLANTAIN / VALAKKAI PUTTU

It i very special and made in good occasions. What they do is when it is amavasai or Pournami (that is fill moon day or no moon day) they used to cook with out onion in the food. They make Pulikuzhambhu and Plantain puttu default in my house. So this dish i always like it. It is very simple and easy dish to make. Whenever i make it, it reminds my grandma, she used to make this dish to the point. The taste and the texture will be consistent.

Plantain can be made in to so many dishes, you can shred the plantain when it is half cooked and make Puttu like this or you can just chop them round and toast them really well and then add salt and Chili powder, or you can even make some yummy Chips out of it by slicing them really thin and frying them in the oil. One of my favorite chips, in Kerala they make with a different kind of plantain, that will taste really awesome, some sweetness will be there and also some spiciness. It will be really so good and crispy. We should slice them really thin with your knife or if you have a food processor you can slice them with the lowest thin slicing setting and then slice them. And another way of using plantain is dicing them and cooking them as puttu, that way it will be nice and chunky and will be good too. I use them in avial too,  plantain, potato and eggplant are the commonly used in avial. So as they say it is a Nattu kai, we use them in different way.
