SAMBHAR
It is usually a tiffin sambhar, which is not used for meals. Has a different taste.

Main Ingredient : Toor dal
Ingredients :
Toor dal - 1 cup
Tomato - 1/2 cup chopped
Green chilli - 2
Onion - chopped - 1/2 cups
Carrot - 1/2 cup diced
Mustard and urud dal - seasoning - 1 tbsp
Curry leaves - few
Oil - 1 tbsp
Turmeric - 1 tsp
Sambhar powder - 2 tbsp
Kayam a pinch
Salt to taste.
Preparation :
- Pressure cook the toor dal, carrots with turmeric and a drop of oil, for 10 mins. Then mast it and keep it aside.
- Heat a pan, add oil add all seasoning , kayam, curry leaves.
- Then add onions, chilli and tomato. Saute well.
- Add water to the pan and turmeric and sambhar powder.
- Leave it to boil for a while. Then add Pressure cooked items.
- Keep the heat in low, boil for few more mins.
- Add salt.
Serve it hot, with Idly, Dosai, Pongal.
